Shells



Shells is used on this website to cover marine bivalves (e.g. clams, scallops) and gastropods (e.g. tritons, cones, cowries). Many species are vulnerable to excessive collecting either for food or for ornaments and shell collectors. As an example, in April 2021, 200 tons of illegally collected giant clams were seized in what was the third in 2021.

Other reef dwellers have shells - sea hares, headshield slugs, chitons, and cuttlefish. These are dealt with on other pages
